Kakha Shengelia, PhD
President of Caucasus University
It is a great pleasure and honor to welcome the IAUP 1st Semi-annual Conference 2020 on “The Scope of Quality Assurance” to Tbilisi, Georgia – the birthplace and home of Caucasus University, of which I am president and founder. It is for the first time in its history that IAUP semiannual meeting is held in Georgia, particularly with Georgian president, and it is my responsibility to make the experience unforgettable and familiarize university presidents and educators from around the world with one of the oldest European cultures. The government of Georgia shares my excitement, providing national involvement and hospitality for the international guests.
Twice every year, the IAUP convenes in centers of education and culture around the world, discussing changing trends of education and the newest developments in related technological fields. This time the event is in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, and we have prepared an outstanding experience for IAUP members, elaborating and discussing themes of quality assurance, as it relates to the university, it's Mission and student involvement.
The conference starts at the historical campus of Caucasus University, with consecutive IAUP Board and Executive Committee meetings culminating with a welcome reception at Tbilisi City Assembly. The programme continues at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), with welcomes from the Georgian Prime Minister, Ministry of Education, and Tbilisi Mayor, as well as by rectors of hosting universities. It's here that you also have the chance to enjoy TSU Students' Choir and finally discuss University Autonomy and accountability, as well as Students' Involvement in Quality Assurance of teaching and learning. The third day contains discussion about Quality Assurance of the Third Mission of the University, opening Ceremony of Michael Adams Library and a reception at the presidential palace, by President of Georgia H.E. Salome Zourabichvili.
Additionally, this conference provides you with the chance to familiarize yourself with Georgian culture, find new partners among the government and educational sector of Georgia and network with your colleagues from the world over. So, please use this opportunity for networking and participation to its fullest.
Welcome to Tbilisi!
