On June 19-21, training was held on the following topic: The third mission of the University: Challenges and Perspectives within the framework of the project "Entrepreneurship Education – Pathway for Innovation, Inclusion and Quality". The meeting was leaded by Irma Grdzelidze, Director of the International Accreditation Service and Strategic Development Department of Caucasus University.
The training was conducted for 4 main groups: students, academic staff, administrative staff and external stakeholders. The training discussed the general concept of the third mission, its historical context and 3 main directions of the third mission: Continuing Education (CE), Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) and Social engagement (SE). Strategic issues such as the compliance and importance of the third mission in the university' s strategy, prioritization of the activities of the third mission of the university, methods of preparing a strategic plan, assembling communication channels and conducting research for society, business and industry, were also discussed. In addition to the fact that the mentioned issues were discussed from the perspective of the Caucasus University, the best European practices of cooperation (Portugal, Finland) and the opportunities that will contribute to the integration of activities planned within the framework of the third mission into the university's action plan were discussed at the training.
At the end of the training, an interactive session was held on the relevance of the third mission in a modern higher education environment, on potential benefits and challenges, and the impact of the third mission on all stakeholders of the university and other general public.
The main goal of the project “Entrepreneurship Education - Pathway for Innovation, Inclusion and Quality " is to modernize higher education programs and learning environment and strengthen their connection with the labor market. Georgian universities participating in the project – Samtskhe-Javakheti State University (SJSU) and Caucasus University (CU) will develop innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities with the experience of the George Washington Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, using university resources, by updating strategic goals and developing an existing network with employees.
