CU CSH Jean Monnet Chair “European Union for Peace, Prosperity and Security” (Jean Monnet Chair 101175522 — EU-PPS) is the winner of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Competition 2024.
The period of work of Jean Monnet Chair is defined from September 2024 to September 2027.
The Jean Monnet Chair aims to strengthen European studies and research in Georgia. Today, the extent of Georgia's European integration, the granting of candidate status and the ongoing processes give us an even greater responsibility to contribute to the strengthening of teaching and research on the European Union.
The Jean Monnet Chair will support both the improvement and development of existing lecture courses and the design and implementation of new lecture courses in educational programs.
The objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair are:
- To create new knowledge about the European Union against the background of current changes in the world and in the European Union; to strengthen the understanding of the role of the European Union in Georgia.
- Strengthening European Studies bachelor and master programmes in higher education institutions, involving teachers and students in research on current developments in the European Union.
- To fulfil the third mission of the University - to disseminate knowledge of the European Union outside the University and to raise public awareness of the European Union.
The target groups of Jean Monnet Chair are:
Bachelor and master programs students, lecturers, school teachers and graduating students, including ethnic minorities and internally displaced persons, students and representatives of the public/non-governmental sector in the Black Sea region of Georgia.
Within the Jean Monnet Chair, the following courses will be modified and developed: Modern History of Europe; Eastward Enlargement of the European Union, European Union Law, EU Social and Economic Policy; Professor from the University of Bucharest, will speak on Romania's experience of rapprochement with the European Union; Training "Europeanization of educational programs" will be held for the academic staff of educational programs; The Caucasus University campuses in Tbilisi and Batumi will host Sunday and Summer Schools on “Current International Challenges and the Europeanisation of Georgia“. The Chair is engaged in a dialogue with other higher education institutions working towards European Studies on the development of educational policies on EU studies; Jean Monnet Chair will host an international scientific conference “Enlargement of the European Union. Practice and Challenges”. The latest results will be published in the conference proceedings.
