YOUNG SCIENTISTS RESEARCH GRANT FUNDING COMPETITION

The Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation is announcing a competition for funding scholarships for young scientists in 2018.

 

The aim of the competition is to support young scientists' research projects by improving the quality of their scientific research, deepening scientific cooperation in thematic or interdisciplinary fields and engaging in academic activities, as well as scientific-research work of higher education institutions of Georgia, Strengthen and improve the noob.

 

Project Application Type - Institutional 

The main conditions of the competition: 

 

Projects can be submitted to the Young Scholars Research Grants Competition in the following fields defined by the Scientific Directory: 

 

  • Exact and Natural Sciences
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Medical and Health Sciences
  • Agrarian Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Humanitarian sciences
  • Sciences of Georgia 

 

In order to win a grant in the Young Scientists Research Grant Competition, the project must be submitted by a young scientist who has been awarded a doctorate or equivalent degree within 7 years prior to the announcement of the competition, and the host institution jointly. 

 

The legal entity registered in Georgia (LEPL), the non-profit (non-commercial) legal entity of private law registered in Georgia, as well as the higher education institution of Georgia, whose purpose / statute is determined by scientific research, can participate in the competition. 

 

  • The young scientist must have a mentor from the academic / scientific staff of the host institution;
  • It is possible for a young scientist to have a consultant (s). The consultant may be a foreign national;
  • No more than 2 support staff may be involved in the project 

 

The duration of the project submitted for the competition must be two years. 

 

The funding requested from the fundation for one grant project should not exceed 30,000 GEL per year, 60,000 GEL - in two years. 

 

The project may have co-financing (additional financial resources) that will partially cover part of the project budget. 

 

The amount requested from the fundation includes the following spending categories: 

 

  • Scholarship for a young scientist (should not exceed 15,000 GEL per year)
  • Expenses for research activities (should not exceed 13,500 GEL per year)
  • Overhead costs (should not exceed 1500 GEL per year) 

 

Competition administration schedule: 

 

April 2 - Announcement of the competition in accordance with the established rules; 

On April 18, 2018 at 16:00, on May 3 at 16:00 and on May 16 at 16:00 - group consultations; 

May 18 - Deadline for submitting questions; 

From April 30 to May 25 at 16:00 - electronic registration of projects; 

May 28 at 16:00 - Deadline for submission of applications for participation in the competition at the Chancellery of the Foundation; 

June - Determining the compliance of registered projects with the competition conditions and requirements;

June-July - Publication of midterm results - Information on the removal of projects submitted in violation of the terms of the competition

June-July - Presentation of projects to competition experts and/or groups of experts, discussion, evaluation, compilation of a unified ranking list and identification of the winners

August - Approval of the winning project (s) of the General Director of the Fundation for individual administrative-legal act financing;

August - Publication of competition results;

August-September – Signing of agreements with young scientists. 

 

It is recommended that individuals and legal entities involved in the project register in the Unified Grant Management System (GMUS) from April 5 before the electronic registration of projects. These include: a young scientist, mentor, host institution, as well as a consultant, co-sponsor or other legal or natural person who provides the project with the material and technical base required for research (if any).

Important information for applicants:

 

  • In order to prepare the project, it is necessary to get acquainted in detail with the order of the Minister, as well as the conditions approved by the order of the Director and the relevant annexes.
  • Only group consultations will be conducted
  • The document of FAQ will be uploaded on the Foundation's website and will be updated periodically before the end of the competition.
