Fulbright Master’s Scholarship Program for the 2023-2024 Academic Year

Please be informed that the U.S. Embassy in Georgia announces the acceptance of applications for the Fulbright Master’s Scholarship Program for the 2023-2024 academic year.

 

The Scholarship Program provides full funding for master’s study in all disciplines at U.S. universities.

 

The Fulbright Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships of the United States government. The main sponsor of the program is the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State. The program is governed by the regulations of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Under an agreement with the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Institute of International Education (New York, U.S.A.) collaborates with a wide range of US universities in order to find the most suitable academic program for selected Fulbright candidates.. 

 

Qualification requirements:

Applicants must be Georgian citizens or holders of a neutral travel document from Abkhazia (Georgia) or the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region (Georgia);

  • Applicants must have completed an undergraduate or equivalent degree;
  • Applicants must be fluent in oral and written English at a level that will enable them to study for a master's program in the USA;
  • Applicants must meet the requirements of a J-1 visa, including that they must return to Georgia after completing at least 2 years of study;
  • The applicant must pass a medical examination;
  • Students who are already studying for a master's program at one of the US universities are unable to apply;
  • Holders of a Green Card, dual US citizenship or other persons who otherwise wish to obtain permanent residence in the US are unable to apply.

 

Application process:

 

Interested candidates should fill out an online application and upload the following documents:

  • 3 letters of recommendation from professors or employers;
  • Official mark sheets from all post-school educational institutions (translated into English);
  • Diploma;
  • CV (max. 4 pages).

 

Additional requirements:

  • Applicants in Social Sciences, Journalism and Humanities may additionally submit a research, published article or other paper if they believe this will strengthen their application;
  • Applicants in the fields of fine and performing arts must submit a demonstration work - a portfolio of works of art, a video clip, a film, an audio recording of a musical work, etc.;
  • Applicants who submit an application in the performing arts may be eligible for an interview.

 

Selection process:

  • Phase 1 - August: Qualification and Formal Requirements Examination - At this stage it is assessed whether the submitted applications meet the qualification and formal requirements. Applicants who do not meet the qualification and/or formal requirements do not proceed to the second selection stage
  • Phase 2 - September: Content Verification of Applications - At this stage, the content verification of the applications takes place, as a result of which the persons eligible at the interview stage are identified.
  • Phase 3 - September/October: Interview - At this stage, the selected candidates are interviewed and the semi-finalists are revealed. The interview will take place at the US Embassy.

 

All selection phases will be conducted by a bi-national selection committee set up by the US Embassy in Georgia, consisting of the Embassy, the LEPL International Education Center, former Fulbright Fellows and Sponsors (International Education Center, Bank of Georgia and Georgia Capital).

 

In October, the semifinalists will be required to take the following standardized tests: 

  • TOEFL - IBT minimum 80 points; PBT minimum 550 points. IBT 100 points (PBT 600 points) are recommended in all areas. The minimum requirement in law is IBT 100 points;
  • GRE - mandatory in all areas except law;
  • GMAT - Mandatory for Business Administration; 

 

The International Institute of Education transmits candidate applications to U.S. universities for their consideration. Candidates themselves should not apply to universities. The final decision on the distribution of candidates to universities is made by the US Department of State Bureau of Education and Culture on the recommendation of the International Institute of Education.

 

Keep in mind that successful applicants typically have no education in the U.S. or Europe, have some work experience, and have clearly demonstrated leadership potential.

 

Applications started on May 1, 2022 and will end at 18:00 on August 1, 2022.

 

On May 16, from 17:00 to 18:00, a question-and-answer session will be held on the Facebook page of the US Embassy.
