Art History Students Visit Kakheti on a Study Trip

21 October 2026

On October 16, students in the Art History program at Caucasus University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences visited Kakheti as part of their coursework.

The trip was the third in a series of visits planned as part of the course syllabus. Students explored the Nekresi Monastery Complex, Old Shuamta, and Alaverdi Cathedral.

Led by Ekaterine Kvachatadze, lecturer in Georgian Art History, the visit enabled students to explore important sites of Georgian cultural heritage firsthand. They examined the monuments’ historical and artistic significance, paying particular attention to their architectural features and the distinctive styles of different periods.

Students presented their prepared assignments, applying knowledge gained in class to analyze the monuments’ historical, artistic, and architectural features.

The series will continue with a study trip to Ananuri, offering students another opportunity to explore Georgian art and architecture firsthand.

The visit was fully funded by Caucasus University.
