Dr. Kakha Shengelia was elected President of the International Association of University Presidents in 2017 by the General Assembly. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria. This is the first time the association has been led by a representative of an Eastern European country. It should be noted that Dr. Kakha Shengelia has been the youngest president-elect in 55 years.
