Presentation of Ioseb Nanobashvili's new book "Party Politics in the European Union"

19 September 2023

On September 19, at 12:00, the presentation of the new book "Party Politics in the European Union" by Ioseb Nanobashvili, associate professor of Caucasus University, director of the regional representation of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) in the South Caucasus, will be held in the Caucasus University bookstore "Librarea".

Understanding the politics of European parties serves to solve three main tasks: on the one hand, the creation, evolution and transformation of European political parties have always been connected with the turning historical events for Europe, which creates an opportunity to consider the new and recent history of Europe from the point of view of party politics; On the other hand, the study of the development of European party politics provides an opportunity to highlight historical, political, socio-economic and legal factors that still influence the activities of European parties and determine their position on various important foreign and domestic issues; The third and, we think, the central task is to evaluate the role of European parties in the formation and implementation of various policies of the European Union, in the decisions of the European Union and in the work of the European Union institutions, in order to determine what kind of influence political organizations operating in Europe have on the European Union.

The successful implementation of these tasks will make it possible to conduct a discussion around the various aspects that determine the behavior of the political and economic center of modern Europe - the European Union.

European political processes are led both by national political parties operating in European countries, as well as pan-European political parties composed of these parties and political groups affiliated with them, which function as factions of the European Parliament. Pan-European political parties unite national political parties with a single political platform, which are usually the ruling political forces in different European countries, and in some cases, the main opposition parties. As can be seen from the handbook, it is the pan-European political parties that exert a significant influence on the legal and institutional aspects of the administration of the European Union.

Accordingly, European political parties represent those organizations within the framework of which agreed positions on the domestic and foreign agenda, as well as various issues of global importance, are subsequently voiced in various institutions of the European Union by the leaders of the mentioned political parties - in most cases, the heads of European states.
