Caucasus University's Public Administration Program Receives USAID Funding

31 May 2024

We are delighted to announce that the project "Enhancing Public Administration Degree Programs (BA, MA) at Caucasus School of Governance," submitted by Caucasus University, has been awarded funding by the USAID National Governance Program.

The Caucasus School of Governance (CSG) is gearing up to update its Bachelor's and Master's programs in Public Administration (PA) to align with new national accreditation standards. Facing a tight deadline of December 2024, the school aims to ensure that its curriculum meets the latest benchmarks and international standards in PA education through the Project – “Enhancing Public Administration Degree Programs (BA, MA) at Caucasus School of Governance”, funded by USAID National Governance Program.

The significance of this project lies in its role in bolstering Georgia's democratic and stable development. As the country pursues EU accession, PA reforms take center stage, aligning with the European Commission's emphasis on fundamental reforms, including public administration.

The project's primary goal is clear: to educate highly qualified PA professionals equipped with modern knowledge and excellence standards. This will not only improve governance and accountability but also promote effective public administration based on the principles of good governance.

To achieve the above-mentioned goal, the project outlines a comprehensive plan:

  • Curriculum Update: The project will update both BA and MA curricula to reflect new benchmark requirements, covering essential areas like public service organization, policy planning, and accountability.
  • Extended Syllabi: Seven extended syllabi will be developed in accordance with new benchmark standards in PA, addressing topics such as digital governance, public finance management etc.
  • Research Workshops: Professional workshops will enhance research skills among students and professors, focusing on research methods, data visualization, and digital governance.
  • Youth Conference: A national youth conference will foster dialogue on PA reform and EU accession requirements, providing students with opportunities to present research papers and engage with professionals.

The project also emphasizes gender and social inclusion, aiming to engage women and underserved groups in its activities. Additionally, it ensures accessibility for students with disabilities, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity.

Looking ahead, the project plans for sustainability beyond its funding cycle. The updated curricula and extended syllabi will continue to benefit students, while the youth conference will evolve into permanent student working groups, fostering collaboration and networking across Georgian HEIs.

To amplify its results, the project employs a robust communication and outreach strategy, leveraging social networks, websites, and local PA networks to disseminate information about its activities.

In summary, the CSG's initiative to enhance PA education in Georgia not only addresses immediate accreditation requirements but also contributes to the country's long-term development goals, fostering a new generation of skilled professionals equipped to navigate the complexities of public administration in a rapidly evolving landscape.
