The Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research of Austria announces the call for applications for the Ernst Mach International Grant Programme.
The programme is intended for postgraduate students, PhD students and postdocs residing outside Austria who wish to pursue studies or research in Austria.
The grant programme covers the following fields of study and research:
- Natural Sciences;
- Technical Sciences;
- Human Medicine and Health Sciences;
- Agricultural Sciences;
- Social Sciences;
- Humanities;
- Arts.
The grant duration is 1 to 9 months, and the Austrian side provides selected candidates with:
- Monthly funding of EUR 1,300;
- Assistance in arranging accommodation and health insurance;
- Exemption from tuition fees at Austrian public universities, subject to the applicable conditions;
- For citizens of certain countries, a travel cost subsidy of up to EUR 1,200, upon submission of the relevant travel documents.
Applicants for the Ernst Mach Grant must be 35 years of age or younger and fall into one of the following categories:
- PhD students studying in a doctoral/PhD programme outside Austria;
- Postgraduate students and postdocs who wish to conduct research in Austria with the aim of pursuing an academic career and who completed their higher education outside Austria after 30 September 2025;
- Postdocs working as lecturers or researchers at a university outside Austria;
- Applicants who have not lived, studied or worked in Austria during the six months preceding the application.
Interested applicants must submit their applications online via www.scholarships.at. The application deadline is 1 December 2026.
