Prospects of Development of Small and Medium Businesses in Georgia

The Conference was opened by Mr. Gia Zhorzholiani, head of the Committee of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy at the Parliament of Georgia and Deputy-Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Tamaz Marsagishvili.

The Conference comprised three sessions.

The first session – Systemic Approach to Development of Small and Medium Businesses in Georgia - was headed by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Ms. Irma Kavtaradze.

The speakers in the first sessions were – Prof. Shalva Machavariani, Vice-President of the Caucasus University, Project Expert, Co-coordinator of the Association of European Studies for Innovative Development of Georgia, Mr. Oleg Shatberashvili, Project Expert, Professor of G. Tavartkiladze Univeristy Prof. Amiran Tavartkiladze, Project Expert, Professor of Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Ghaghanidze.

The second session – Development of University Education in Georgia as the major Condition for Preparing Highly-qualified Professionals in Georgia - was headed by Deputy-Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Tamaz Marsagishvili; Speakers in the session were: Ms. Irine Darchia, head of the Department of Higher Education and Science , Ms. Marine Chitashvili, Director General of the National Scientific Foundation of Georgia, Prof. Vakhtang Sartania, the Dean of Business and Social Science of St. Andrew the First-Called, Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia.

The third session – Conditions of Development of Small and Medium Businesses in Georgia; moderator Deputy-chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy at the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Temur Maisuradze. The speakers at the session were: Mr. Giorgi Tsikolia, the head of the Agency for Entrepreneurial Development of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Kashibadze, the Chair of the Agency for Innovation and Technology of Georgia, Deputy-Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, Ms. Maia Guntsadze, Program Expert of the Regional Office Countries of the South Caucasus, Ms. Marina Avalishvili – de Boer , Ms. Franceska Mazzucco, the European Union Delegation in Georgia, Deputy-chair of the National Intellectual Property Center (Sakpatenti ), Ms. Sophio Mujiri, the President of the Experts' Council. Mr, Ramaz Gerliani, Expert of Economics, Mr. Levan Kalandadze, Professor of St. Andrew the First-Called, Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia, Mr. Mikheil Tokmazishvili.

The Conference was concluded with a discussion on the opportunities of development of small and medium businesses in Georgia.
