Georgia has initiated a substantial new stage in the advancement of artificial intelligence. Caucasus University has established the AI Scientific Research Center, an academic, research, and technological platform dedicated to exploring the role and potential of artificial intelligence in key fields through an interdisciplinary approach.
The establishment of the Center aligns with the increasing integration of artificial intelligence into daily life, which is transforming multiple aspects of society and the economy. In Georgia, the advancement of AI is now closely associated with knowledge creation, economic growth, national competitiveness, and the country’s digital future, extending beyond the adoption of new technologies.
The Artificial Intelligence Scientific Research Center will integrate scientific, academic, international, and informational components. Its multifaceted structure includes conducting research projects and creating a platform that brings together representatives from the public, private, and academic sectors. Such collaboration is essential for formulating and executing an innovative national digital policy agenda.
A primary objective of the Center is to transform scientific research into tangible technological products and practical solutions.
Several significant projects are already planned within the Center’s framework:
- Lumen AI - An AI-Based Hybrid Learning Model
Lumen AI is one of the Center’s initial major initiatives and introduces a new model for integrating artificial intelligence into university education. The project is scheduled to launch in the fall semester of the 2026–2027 academic year and will examine how AI can effectively support teaching and learning.
The project will include an experimental academic study comparing two approaches to delivering the same course to different student groups: a traditional teaching model and a hybrid model in which a lecturer collaborates with an AI mentor.
- Development of the First Georgian Dictionary of AI Terminology and the First Comprehensive Georgian Textbook on Artificial Intelligence
This initiative will be the Center’s second major project, consolidating key concepts and terminology from artificial intelligence and related fields. The dictionary aims to establish precise, consistent, and academically rigorous Georgian equivalents for internationally used terms and to support the development of Georgian-language scientific and educational resources.
A contemporary Georgian textbook on artificial intelligence will also be developed for students, lecturers, researchers, and other interested audiences.
- Development of AI-Based Practical Solutions for the Public Sector - AI-Based Forecasting and Analysis of Georgia’s Macroeconomic Indicators
The platform will enable public administration bodies to use AI-based methods to forecast Georgia’s macroeconomic indicators over the coming years, leveraging current economic data with an accuracy exceeding 95 percent. By adjusting relevant parameters, the system will also facilitate the planning of optimal strategies for the country’s economic development.
An important function of the Center will be to foster an environment that supports the development of young researchers and doctoral students. Specifically, the Center will enable them to:
- develop innovative research ideas;
- create experimental AI models;
- test research results in real-world environments;
- develop software products and prototypes;
- prepare international scientific publications;
- participate in local and international research projects.
In the long term, the Caucasus University AI Scientific Research Center seeks to become a leading academic platform for artificial intelligence research and innovation in Georgia, expand international partnerships, and contribute to the education and training of a new generation of AI scientists, researchers, and specialists.
