It is intended to help future journalists to be able to effectively present the above-mentioned topics to a diverse audience in line with high level professional standards and ethical norms.
The manual was created in the framework of USAID harm reduction program to prevent the spread of HIV and other STDs. This is part of a larger social marketing program to raise awareness of the need for preventive measure and the material has been created in cooperation with the following institutions of higher education: CSM, GIPA, TSU and "Bemoni" – a non-governmental organization. This NGO works with civil society towards a more effective response to the HIV epidemic in Europe and Central Asia.
Nino Zhizhilashvili, dean of Caucasus School of Media, is the chief editor of the manual. She explained that CSM lecturers will use the book in the next semester. Topics covered include professional ethical norms and social marketing. The manual will help journalists broaden their knowledge of specific terminology about HIV and drugs-related issues. They will learn how to effectively inform the public and specific audiences of the HIV threat and in a manner that will not stigmatized and result in discrimination to those may be exposed and living with HIV.
The manual is accompanied by videos and articles. Lecturers will have access to an excellent resource material that will allow them to effectively discuss HIV and drugs-related via the Georgian media
