Presentation of Otar Janelidze’s books

On December 19, a presentation of the books by Professor Otar Janelidze, Doctor of History Sciences, took place at Caucasus University. The president of Caucasus University, Kakha Shengelia, delivered a welcoming speech to the audience during the event.

 

The title of the first book is: "Zubalashvili, Davit Sarajishvili, Akaki Khoshtaria, Mitrophane Lagidze and others" (published in 2020).

 

The book sheds light on a prominent Georgian business family and three famous Georgian business figures, providing their biographies. It also introduces several contemporary entrepreneurs and philanthropists, offering insights into the era during which they made significant contributions. Who were these people? What was their role in Georgia at that time? How did they perform in the national and public arena? What was the business biography of these people and how did they cooperate with other famous public figures of that era? The book answers these questions and therefore combines biographical and historical material that has not been previously published together.

 

The second book is: "Birth of Business Georgia (1801-1921 years)" (published in 2022).

 

The book presents the inception of capitalism in Georgia with its positive and negative attributes, highlighting both its strengths, weaknesses and versatility; With different firms and companies, business deals, joint stock companies, investments, stock markets, competition, conflicts, individual enrichment and bankruptcy, implemented or failed projects, social injustice, class struggle. All of this is shown against the backdrop of global development, considering the public, political, and socio-economic realities within the Russian Empire during that period. An important place is given to the projects carried out in Georgia between 1801 and 1921. The work also discusses many different projects that, for various reasons, were unable to come to fruition.  

 

Otar Janelidze is engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities, researches the new, modern history of Georgia and other issues.

 

Otar Janelidze made a great contribution to the historical research and popularization of the First Republic of Georgia (1918-1921) and the corresponding period. He is the author and co-author of more than 130 scientific papers (including 15 monographs), school and university textbooks. His scientific publications are published in several languages. Mr. Otari is the editor of "Kartuli Emigratsia" journal.
