Project Jean Monnet Lead Center for the Transposition of EU Legislation Closure Event

25 February 2025

On February 24, a public event marking the closure of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence for EU Policy Transposition (EUPOLTRANS) project was held in the conference hall of Caucasus University.

The event was opened by Ms. Irena Melua, Vice President for Internationalization at Caucasus University. In her speech, she emphasized the role of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence in promoting European education and its activities in teaching, research, and policy discussions.

The audience was then addressed by Ms. Lucia Di Troia, Deputy Director of the Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation in Georgia, who welcomed the project's goals and accomplishments, and wished the academic team success in their future endeavors.

The Dean of the School of Governance, Ms. Eka Akobia, briefly reviewed the project's results. It was noted that the project application was submitted in 2021, initiated by the Caucasus School of Governance. In the 2021 competition, the European Commission received 821 applications, of which 34%, including this project, were selected. The project was interdisciplinary and represented a collaboration between the School of Governance, the School of Law, and the School of Business at Caucasus University. Eight professors from these three faculties worked on seven policy directions, assessed the process and quality of Georgia's convergence with EU legislation within the framework of the Association Agreement/Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (AA/DCFTA), and promoted inclusive and knowledge-based citizen engagement in the European integration process through teaching, research, and discussions.

Within the project, 11 different independent physical meetings and training sessions were held, involving over 200 participants from various sectors, including students, media, civil society, the public sector, and business. As part of the project, a research collection was published, and video lectures were produced, which are publicly available on the Caucasus University website.

The project's experts also summarized the work and results related to the EUPOLTRANS objectives in a panel discussion, where they talked about the achievements of the project and future plans and trends in their respective research areas as well as policies.
