In 2025, the Center has received a one-year intra-university grant project from Caucasus University: “Vorontsov’s Cultural Policy: The Russian Plan for “Europeanization” in Georgia.”
Project Leader: Caucasus University Associate Prof. Nana Sharikadze.
Researcher involved in the project: Caucasus University Associate Prof. Eka Kinadze.
Short project abstract:
The project aims to publish a Georgian-language monograph titled Vorontsov's Cultural Policy: The Russian Plan for "Europeanization" in Georgia. This monograph will examine the imperial cultural policies and colonization strategies implemented during the administration of Russian General and diplomat Mikhail Vorontsov (1844–1854) in a broader historical and cultural context.
The research will allow us to critically assess and analyze how Vorontsov used culture and education as a form of “soft power” to achieve Russia’s imperial goals, and what impact this policy had on the subsequent cultural and socio-economic development of Georgia.
