Roundtable - Culture, Power, and Political Narrative in the Post-Soviet Context

On May 22, organized by the International Research Center for Georgian Studies at Caucasus University, a roundtable discussion was held on "Culture, Power, and Political Narrative in the Post-Soviet Context."

 

The invited speakers presented the following topics:

 

  • Philip Ross Bullock (Oxford University) - "Edward Beneš. The Problem of Small Nations in The European Crisis: Sentential Reflections";
  • Peter J. Schmelz (Johns Hopkins University) - "The True End of the Cold War: The Politics of Art, Exchange, Remembering, and Forgetting";
  • Maia Sigua (Tbilisi State Conservatoire)  - Soft Power, Opera and Popular Narratives;
  • Nana Sharikadze ( Caucasus University ) - Cultural Front-lines: Gergiev in post war Tskhinvali;
  • Tsotne Tchanturia (Caucasus University) - "Nostalgia and Historical Ties: Elements of Russia’s Soft Power in Georgia".
