A new study by Caucasus School of Business Research Center, Russian Foreign Capital and Its Impact on the ESG Sustainability of Georgian Companies, has been published in the leading international British journal Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies (Emerald Publishing, Scopus Q1).

 

The research findings reveal that when foreign capital is concentrated in strategic sectors such as energy, transportation, and telecommunications—and when geopolitical objectives of asset control outweigh market-driven considerations—levels of corporate transparency and sustainability reporting decline. This effect is particularly pronounced in the social and governance dimensions of ESG sustainability.

 

Importantly, the study shows that this negative impact is observed exclusively in the case of Russian capital and does not apply to other forms of foreign investment.
