On January 15, students of the Bachelor’s Program in European Studies at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Caucasus University, delivered presentations on the topic “Let’s Get to Know the Museums of Europe”. The presentations were part of the European History lecture course, taught by Professor Guranda Chelidze.
Last year, representatives of ICOM Georgia visited the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, where they introduced students to various interesting initiatives of the International Council of Museums. The discussion highlighted the importance of museum education, the social role of museums, and their contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The meeting inspired several creative ideas among the students, leading them to independently prepare presentations about European museums. They shared their personal impressions of museums they had visited, with presentations covering the British Museum, the Alte Pinakothek, the Louvre, the Prado Museum, the Belvedere, and the Hohensalzburg Castle.
The presenters discussed the history, collections, and exhibitions of these cultural centers. They emphasized the significance of museums in understanding European history and cultural diversity, how museums reflect various facets of civilizational development and offer visitors a connection to both the past and present. Additionally, they explored the role of museums as centers for research and education; a lot of interesting questions were posed at the presentations.
