Media literacy in formal education

The research project aims to experiment and examine the outcomes of integrating media literacy competence into formal school education. The methodological framework of the research relies on an action plan, involving the creation of original Georgian-language educational resources on media literacy. These resources will be distributed to active civic education teachers, and the research will then assess the frequency and effectiveness of their use. The primary research method is participatory observation, supplemented by quantitative and qualitative interview methods for data collection and analysis.

The results of the study include the creation of research-based knowledge about the ways and practices of integrating media literacy competence in formal education in Georgia. Additionally, it involves the development of original Georgian-language practical educational resources. The research will analyze the results of the experiment in integrating media literacy competence into formal education, providing a valuable source for future studies. This contribution is anticipated to contribute to media literacy discussions on local, regional, and global scales.

The project is funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia grant for research of young scientists within the framework of the 2022 state scientific grant competition. The head of the project is Giorgi Jologua.
