As part of a collaboration between the School of Law and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Caucasus University invites prospective students to participate in an immersive mock trial focused on copyright infringement.
The project is designed for applicants interested in law, humanities, and social sciences and offers a practical introduction to intellectual property law. Participants will first gain theoretical knowledge and then apply it in a realistic courtroom environment. The program is equally valuable for those interested in legal professions and for students engaged in the arts and creative fields.
What participants will gain
– An introduction to key concepts of intellectual property law
– Development of legal reasoning, argumentation, and critical thinking skills
– First-hand experience of a civil court proceeding
– Insight into copyright protection from both legal and creative perspectives
Roles in the mock trial - Participants will take on the roles involved in a civil court case, including:
– Judge
– Claimant and legal representatives
– Defendant and legal representatives
– Third party with an independent claim and legal representatives
– Witnesses, including an expert
Program structure (February 28)
Stage I – Informational and preparatory session

The introductory session will focus on:
– The concept and purpose of a mock trial
– The structure and stages of court proceedings
– Roles and responsibilities of participants
– Formulating and presenting legal arguments
– Procedural and ethical standards in court
Roles will be assigned randomly. Participants will then hear a real-life copyright infringement case presented by a composer, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Throughout the preparation process, students from the Caucasus University School of Law will support participants with case analysis, argument development, and effective role performance.
Stage II – Mock trial

The second stage features a fully simulated court hearing closely aligned with real judicial practice, including:
– Opening of the court session and announcement of courtroom rules
– Statements by the claimant and the defendant
– Oral arguments
– Examination of evidence
– Final remarks by the parties
– Delivery of the judge’s decision
