On May 11-12, Caucasus University hosted Professor Radu Carp from University of Bucharest within the framework of the Jean Monnet Chair “European Union for Peace, Prosperity and Security” (EU-PPS).
The visit was organized as part of the Chair’s educational activities and aimed to engage a European expert in sharing knowledge and experience related to the European Union’s enlargement process and the experiences of member states with students.
During the visit, Professor Radu Carp delivered a short lecture course for students entitled “The Experience of Romania Joining the European Union” (8 hours). The lectures were attended by bachelor program students of European Studies and History involved in the activities of the Jean Monnet Chair.
The lecture course covered important political, legal, and institutional issues related to the process of European integration and accession to the European Union, including: the theoretical foundations of European integration and understanding the EU accession process; the EU governance system and its importance for candidate countries; democratic standards, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights as essential preconditions for EU membership; the experience of reforms implemented on the path toward EU membership, with a particular focus on Romania; and the practical aspects of negotiations with the European Union.
The lectures attracted significant interest among students. The meetings included active discussions and numerous questions concerning the importance of sharing the experiences of EU member states for Georgia, particularly in light of the country’s future prospects for European integration.
Professor Radu Carp highlighted the students’ high level of motivation and engagement throughout the educational process. A total of 37 students attended the short lecture course. The lectures were also attended by Professor Guranda Chelidze of the Jean Monnet Chair “European Union for Peace, Prosperity and Security” (EU-PPS).
