Caucasus University, in cooperation with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden, Germany, announces a call of applications for the undergraduate students from the School of Technology to participate in the joint summer school program: "AI Meets Arts".
The summer school program is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
As part of the program, students will create their own database based on artworks and utilize modern artificial intelligence methods for classification, search, and analysis. They will also participate in a hackathon.
The program is designed for students who have an interest and some experience in artificial intelligence and computer science (specialized knowledge in the field of art is not required).
Program Activities:
- Selection of an art-focused AI task - style classification, motif recognition, image search, segmentation, or multimodal search;
- Image collection and processing - photographing or selecting artworks, adding metadata, and specifying sources and licenses;
- Database labeling - developing taxonomy, annotation rules, and quality control mechanisms;
- Train or fine-tune a model - adapting models through transfer learning, CLIP systems, and other algorithmic adjustments (fine-tuning);
- Evaluation of results and prototype presentation - error analysis, presenting examples, and discussing limitations (the best projects will receive awards);
- Participation in social events and excursions in Georgia and Germany.
Potential Topics for Team Projects:
Style classifier, visual similarity search, core theme detector, art symbol explorer, artwork captioning, ornament segmentation, color and composition analysis.
Program Details:
- Date: October 3 - 17, 2026;
- Location: 1 week in Tbilisi, at Caucasus University; 1 week in Amberg, Germany, at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden.
- Round-trip travel, accommodation, and meals (partial) are funded by the DAAD;
- During the first stage of the program (Location: Caucasus University), two-person teams will be formed (1 student from OTH Amberg-Weiden and 1 student from Caucasus University);
