On March 7-9, in Great Britain, the 2024 semi-annual meeting of the "International Association of University Presidents" was held at Nottingham Trent University. The topic of the meeting was: "Transforming Higher Education, Transforming Lives". Meetings were held at both the London and Nottingham campuses.
Higher education leaders from Europe, Asia, Africa and America attended the event. More than 20 speakers presented and shared their experiences on the transformation of higher education, the role of their university presidents in this process and future perspectives. Panel discussions were held on important topics such as: student services and mental health, diversity, inclusion and equity, the university's role and impact on economic and social development, increasing the quality and quantity of international student enrolment, student life, the workforce, industries and other relevant topics.
From Caucasus University, the meeting was attended by the president of CU, Kakha Shengelia, who is also the chairman of the IAUP Governing Board. He moderated a panel discussion on "Transforming the International Student Enrollment Process." The vice-president of the university in the direction of internationalization, Irena Melua, also participated in the conference.
The meeting opened with addresses delivered by Dr. Fernando León-García, President of IAUP and CETYS University, along with Prof. (Dr.) Edward Peck, Vice-Chancellor and President of NTU, and Dr. Diana Beach, CEO of London Higher.
The three-day program featured panel sessions; participants had the opportunity to share best practices and strategic insights regarding the ever-evolving global processes in higher education.
During the meeting, Kakha Shengelia held a session of the Governing Board. The members assessed the ongoing activities of the organization, deliberated and voted on nominations for the IAUP president-elect and its secretariat, examined trends in new membership growth, and outlined activities for the current year, which included planning for the October China Conference, where the presidency will transition to the new IAUP president.
