The article "Assistance of the United States of America in the development of the health care system of Georgia" was published in the European refereed journal "Archives Balkan Medical Union".
The authors of the papers are: Avtandil Zorbenadze (Minister of Labor, Health and Social Defense of Georgia 1993-2001, State Minister 2001-2003, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Acad. G. Chapidze Emergency Cardiology Center from 2011 to the present) and Tengiz Verulava (Professor of Caucasus University, Director of the Health Policy Institute).
The journal Archives Balkan Medical Union is indexed in the international scientific database of SCOPUS-ის (Elsevier).
The paper highlights the significant contribution of the American people and government to the construction of Georgian statehood, as well as its democratic, economic, and social development. The merit of the USA in bringing Georgia's health care system out of the crisis and in its subsequent reformation and development from the first years of independence is invaluable. During this extremely difficult period, with the assistance of the USA, many people were saved from hunger, illness, death and their health conditions improved. This assistance can be divided into three parts: humanitarian aid (medicines and medical consumables), technical assistance (bringing new medical directions to the country, raising the education of medical personnel and society), promoting healthcare system improvement (via combined projects, programs and research with numerous USA organizations, foundations, and scientific research institutions). This fact confirms the firm support of the United States of America in helping the Georgian people build a democratic society, ensure security, and achieve the prosperity and economic progress of the country.
