On April 26, the Lithuanian Writers’ Union hosted a Georgian calligraphy masterclass for Sunday School students and their parents within the framework of the project “I Love Georgian – My State Language!”, initiated by Mariam Manjgaladze.
The audience was addressed by Mariam Manjgaladze, who highlighted the importance of the cooperation between Caucasus University and Vilnius University, of Georgian identity, and the rich history of the Georgian language.
The masterclass was led by Nestan Bagauri, Director of the Georgian Calligraphers Association, and calligrapher Ana Gokadze.
During the session, participants were introduced to the rich world of Georgian calligraphic art. The word selected for demonstrating mastery in calligraphy was - “Georgia”. The works were created in the calligraphic Mkhedruli script characteristic of 17th–18th-century manuscripts of The Knight in the Panther’s Skin. The decorative capital letter “S” and vine-themed ornaments were inspired by the aesthetics of ancient Georgian manuscripts.
It is noteworthy that, through the cooperation of Caucasus University, Vilnius University, the Georgian Calligraphers Association, and the Lithuanian Writers’ Union, remarkable examples of Georgian calligraphy were created in Vilnius for the first time. This cooperation will continue in the future.
The event was organized by Caucasus University and Vilnius University, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Georgia, the Georgian Calligraphers Association, the Lithuanian Writers’ Union, and Publishing House - Intellect.
The project “I Love Georgian – My State Language!” was founded ten years ago at Vilnius University.
