Caucasus University delegation, led by Kakha Shengelia, President of Caucasus University, and Irena Melua, Vice President for Internationalization, participated in the IAUP 2026 Semi-Annual Meeting, hosted by Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius from April 29 to May 1, 2026.
Held under the theme “Resilient Minds, Innovative Pathways: Universities Leading Global Transformation,” the meeting brought together university presidents and senior leaders from around the world to engage in high-level discussions on the most pressing challenges and opportunities in higher education.
The 2026 program focused on key global priorities, including artificial intelligence in education, innovation ecosystems, sustainability, institutional resilience, and the evolving role of universities in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global environment. The event also provided a valuable platform for dialogue, collaboration, and exchange among higher education leaders.

Building a Culture of Philanthropy: Advancing Universities Through Strategic Fundraising
This panel explored how universities worldwide are increasingly leveraging philanthropy as a strategic driver of resilience, innovation, and long-term impact. Discussions focused on developing a sustainable culture of giving, strengthening alumni and donor engagement, and building effective advancement structures. Panelists shared practical insights and institutional experiences, emphasizing leadership strategies and the role of philanthropy in supporting global university missions.
Leading Through Change: Presidential Perspectives from IAUP. This session focused on presidential leadership in times of uncertainty, innovation, and global transformation. Drawing on insights from IAUP leadership publications, including the forthcoming volume Guided by Principle: Driven by Change(Bloomsbury Press, 2026), panelists reflected on how university leaders navigate disruption, uphold academic values, foster innovation, and contribute to society in a rapidly evolving world.
The conference also provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen institutional partnerships. During the visit, President Kakha Shengelia and Inga Žalėnienė, Rector of Mykolas Romeris University, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at advancing academic collaboration between the two institutions. The parties also agreed to plan reciprocal visits to further develop joint initiatives.
In parallel, Vice President Irena Melua participated in the Female Presidents’ Meeting an informal peer exchange focused on leadership, resilience, global responsibility, and the role of families within the academic community.
Through active engagement in IAUP, Caucasus University continues to share its experience in internationalization, innovation, and institutional development, while strengthening global partnerships and contributing to the advancement of higher education worldwide.
