An affiliated associate professor of Caucasus University, Mariam Lomaia, PhD, participated in the 25th Multidisciplinary Medical Conference organized by the Association for Medical Education and Evidence-Based Medicine, where she presented a report on “Otolaryngological Complication in a Rare Disease: A Clinical Case; Changes in Mucosal Membranes in the Context of COVID 19”.
The report reviewed granulomatous vasculitis (with polyangiitis), which is an autoimmune granulomatous inflammation of the blood vessel walls, affecting small and medium-sized blood vessels: capillaries, venules, arterioles and arteries, with involvement of the upper respiratory tract, eyes, kidneys, lungs and other organs. The cause of the disease is unknown. Genetic and environmental factors, as well as immune system dysregulation, are believed to play an important role. This pathology is considered a rare disease.
The presentation discussed the clinical manifestations of the disease, epidemiology, as well as the main mechanisms, especially in otorhinolaryngology, and modern strategies for the management of ENT complications.
