At the official invitation of the Department of Asian, African and Mediterranean Studies of the University of Naples “L’Orientale” (Director – Prof. Roberta Giunta), Prof. Mariam Manjgaladze was on a business trip to Italy from November 4 to 12. Based on the memorandum between “L’Orientale” and Caucasus University, Prof. Mariam Manjgaladze delivered a lecture course on topics such as the language policy of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia and the modern period, the origin of the Georgian script, the Kartvelian language family, and the linguistic and dialectal mosaic.
Its listeners included students from the General Linguistics course (lecturer - Prof. Giancarlo Schirru), the Georgian Language and Literature, History of the Christian East courses (lecturer - Prof. Gaga Shurgaia), along with others interested in these topics. The lectures, conducted in an interactive manner, sparked great interest; a number of interesting questions were asked, which also became the basis for interesting discussions.
University of Naples “L’Orientale” is one of the oldest higher educational institutions of Oriental Studies (founded in 1711-1723), and its Sinological School is the oldest in Europe. Three years ago, a memorandum of scientific and academic cooperation was signed between Caucasus University and University of Naples “L’Orientale”, the initiators were Prof. Mariam Manjgaladze and a recognized researcher in the Italian scientific community, coordinator of the Center of the Christian East at “L’Orientale”, Prof. Gaga Shurghaia.
The successful visit of Prof. Mariam Manjgaladze to the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and the scientific and cultural activities of the Department of Asian, African and Mediterranean Studies give rise to a well-founded hope that cooperation between the universities will deepen and yield even more fruitful results.
