On July 8, at the meeting of the Assembly General of International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), Dr. Kakha Shengelia was elected the President for a three-year term. The ceremony attended by the Vice Premier, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Mr. Alexsandre Jejelava, representatives of approximately 30 public and private higher educational institutions and by almost 400 presidents of Universities of 75 countries was held in the Hofburg Palace, Vienna.

In his speech Dr. Kakha Shengelia spoke about the priorities of IAUP in the next three years and said the slogan and chief aim of the IAUP during his presidency will be – “Innovations in Education for a Better Future”..

In the afternoon, Dr. Kakha Shengelia held the first board meeting at which he introduced the new membership of the Executive Committee and of the Advisory Board. In addition, he elected 13 new regional chairs and introduced an agenda of planned events and main directions for the next three years.
