Professor David Shimp Appointed as Deputy Dean of New Westminster College of Caucasus University

The Office of the President of Caucasus University has announced that Professor David Shimp was officially appointed today as Deputy Dean of New Westminster College of Caucasus University with concurrent appointment as a member of the Board of Directors of Caucasus University.


Professor David Shimp previously served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of New Westminster College in Canada from 2011 to 2017, and briefly as its president before it became a constituent college of Caucasus University on November 1, 2017. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of the International Association of University Presidents.


Professor Shimp received a Professorial Appointment in Philosophy from both Sophia University  and Caucasus University, and was an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at the University of Alaska. Professor Shimp has earned the Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Sophia University St. Kliment Ohridski conferred by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Bulgaria. He has also earned the Master of Science Degree in Information Systems Management from the United States Naval Postgraduate School and the Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He is an honorary doctorate of Caucasus University.

 

Professor Shimp was certified by the United States Department of Defense as a Foreign Area Officer and has served as Honorary Consul of Georgia since 2010. He previously served as an Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina, Chairman of the Maritime Security Commission, and is President Emeritus of the Black Sea Council of the Navy League of the United States. He started his naval career in 1976 in the United States Navy and retired as a Captain in 2001. Thereafter, he was appointed as Commander of the federally recognized South Carolina Naval Militia in 2005 and retired in 2009 with the state-commissioned rank of Rear Admiral. His leadership experience with the United States Navy includes serving as Director of U.S. Naval Security Group (Atlantic), Director for Cryptology and Director of Information Operations of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. He is a recipient of the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Freedom of the City of London.
