The project is funded by European Commission within the framework of Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE). The aim of the initiative is to establish Peace Studies Curricula at Georgian higher education institutions based on the experience sharing with European partners. The duration of the project is three years and the following activities are envisaged: enhancing qualification of Georgian professors, creating new modules and integrating them to different Graduate programmes at partner universities in Georgia, establishing Institute for Peace Studies, publishing peer reviewed journal, conducting International Peace Conference, holding information meetings for Georgian students.
The ceremony was opened by a welcome speech by Dr. Kakha Shengelia, President of the Caucasus University. He underlined the role of the project in regard to development of peace studies research in Georgia. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the State Ministry for Reconciliation and Civic Equality of Georgia.
Along with a number of leading European Universities - University of Innsbruck (Austria), University of Ulster (UK), Dublin City University (Ireland), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) - four Georgian Universities are involved in the project: Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Caucasus University, Ilia State University and Sokhumi State University.
