European Day of Languages

On September 26, an event dedicated to the "European Day of Languages", which has become a tradition, was held in the conference hall of Caucasus University. Council of Europe member states have been celebrating this day for 22 years in support of linguistic and cultural diversity.

 

The moderator of the event was Professor Mariam Manjgaladze of Caucasus University.

 

The national representative of language education policy in the Council of Europe, the head of the Georgian language department of the Ministry of Education and Science, Professor Marika Odzeli, spoke about the essence of the European Day of Languages.

 

Ukrainian writer and translator Natalia Trokhim and Mariam Manjgaladze read some excerpts from Lesya Ukrainka's outstanding dramatic poem "Cassandra". The work was translated into Georgian by Gaga Nakhutsrishvili. Attendees had the opportunity to hear and evaluate the translation before the book was published.

 

During the event, the best calligraphers of the "Georgian Calligraphers Association", together with students, wrote the motto of Caucasus University "Knowledge is the Prerequisite of Freedom" in ten languages and presented it to the public in an improvised manner.

 

The meeting was interactive, the attending public had the opportunity to receive comprehensive answers to the questions of importance to them.
