On May 20, Caucasus School of Law hosted a meeting for its students on ways to prevent violence against women. The session was led by women’s rights advocate Eliso Rukhadze and psychologist Khatia Janiashvili.
The discussion covered the following topics:
- Femicide as the most severe form of violence against women and domestic violence;
- Identifying signs of gender-based intolerance, defining intolerance towards equality between women and men, and addressing the issue of minors who witness femicide;
- Measures to prevent femicide, including restraining orders, the preconditions for the use of electronic monitoring bracelets for perpetrators, protective orders under the Law of Georgia on the Elimination of Violence against Women and/or Domestic Violence, Protection and Support of Victims, as well as existing practice and key challenges;
- Women’s economic empowerment mechanisms guaranteed by the Istanbul Convention, along with national practice and related challenges.
The meeting was held in an interactive question-and-answer format.
