Presentation of the collection dedicated to the memory of Zurab Bragvadze

On May 5, the presentation of the collection Issues of Iberia-Colchis Archaeology was held in the conference hall of Caucasus University. The collection is dedicated to the memory of Zurab Bragvadze, a famous Georgian archaeologist and historian, and professor at Caucasus University.

 

The event was opened by Mr. Bragvadze’s son, David Bragvadze, a visiting lecturer at Caucasus University, who welcomed the audience. Archaeologist and Doctor of Historical Sciences Goderdzi Narimanishvili, along with David Natroshvili, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Caucasus University, spoke about Zurab Bragvadze’s scientific legacy and the significance of the collection dedicated to his work.

 

The collection contains 22 scientific articles by 34 authors, dedicated to the problems of the archaeology of Iberia and Colchis. The authors of the articles published in the collection represent both Georgian and foreign scientific-research institutions, such as:

Otar Lortkipanidze Institute of Archaeological Research of the Georgian National Museum; Shalva Amiranashvili State Museum of Art of the Georgian National Museum; Research Institute of Paleontology and Paleobiology of the Georgian National Museum; Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University; Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Institute of History and Ethnology; Georgian National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation; Niko Berdzenishvili Historical Museum (Kutaisi, Georgia); Sokhumi State University; Eurasian Department of the German Institute of Archaeology (Berlin, Germany); French National Center for Scientific Research (Lyon, France); Ca’ Foscari University (Venice, Italy); Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (Yerevan, Armenia).

 

In addition to scientific articles, the collection includes a biography of Zurab Bragvadze, as well as a bibliography, photo album and memories about him.

 

Zurab Bragvadze passed away on November 29, 2023, at the age of 62. On July 2, 2024, an auditorium named in his honor (A17) was opened at Caucasus University.
