June 10, The founding ceremony of the Kutaisi branch of Khetsuriani Sommelier and Wine School| Caucasus University was held in the building of the Historical-Ethnographic Museum.
The ceremony was attended by: State Representative in Imereti - Zviad Shalamberidze, Kutaisi Mayor - Ioseb Khakhaleishvili, Kutaisi Majoritarian MP - Zaza Lominadze, Chairman of the National Wine Agency - Levan Mekhuzla, Acting Head of the National Tourism Administration of Georgia - Medea Janiashvili, Executive Director of DMO Imereti - Mari Devidze.
Dr. Kakha Shengelia, President of Caucasus University, and Shalva Khetsuriani, President of Marani Khetsuriani, Founder of the Georgian Sommelier Association, spoke about the school and the curriculum.
In the framework of mutual cooperation, a memorandum was signed between Khetsuriani Sommelier and Wine School | Caucasus University and Kutaisi State Historical Museum, as well as between Khetsuriani Sommelier and Wine School | Caucasus University and DMO Imereti.
The presentation of two school curricula took place at the ceremony:

The Sommelier course is designed for representatives of the hospitality, tourism, restaurant and wine industry and its task is to develop knowledge and services in these fields, both in Kutaisi and in the region as a whole. The course is designed not only for sommeliers but also for the full staff of restaurant services: restaurant, cafe and bar managers, service managers, waiters, bartenders and more.
The course includes the following:
- The art of sommelier;
- The latest standards of service in restaurants, cafes and bars;
- Leading viticulture and winemaking regions of Georgia and the world|Tasting;
- International Wine Evaluation Practice| Tasting;
- Introduction to viticulture and winemaking;
An exam will be held upon completion of the course. Those who successfully pass the exam will be awarded the status of Assistant Sommelier by the Georgian Sommelier Association.
Winery course - designed for those who already have or intend to start wine production and arrange their own winery.
The course includes the following:
- Basics of viticulture;
- The basics of winemaking;
- Pitcher wine production;
- Wine Tourism and Marketing;

The training program is designed based on the daily activities of the winery keepers, taking into account questions and specific needs.
In addition, students will be given a unique opportunity to participate in the creation of syllabi. All students will be able to provide the school with pre-course questions that answer their specific needs in their daily activities. This will help them manage the quality of the vineyard, cellar and wine.

The training courses are conducted with the support of Kutaisi Municipality, Georgian National Tourism Administration, DMO Imereti and Best Western Hotel Kutaisi.
