Training - How to Teach the EU

5 November 2024

Within the Jean Monet module "Europeanization of law programs in Georgia", the teaching material for lecturers "How to teach the European Union" was  published. The authors of the teaching material are Jean Monnet professors Ekaterine Kardava and Guranda Chelidze.

In order to popularize the material, at the same time, to raise the knowledge of lecturers and the professional community, a training session "How to teach the European Union" was held within the framework of the Jean Monnet module.

Pre-registration and announcement about the training has been distributed. The demand was high, so it was decided to conduct the training with different target groups.

The training was held on October 24 and October 31, 2024. According to the project, 19 people should have participated in the training, but in fact 63 persons participated.

On October 24, 2024, the training was held at the Biltmore Tbilisi Hotel with two target groups - lecturers/academic staff and students of master's and doctoral programs. On October 31, 2024, training was held for teachers and pupils at the 2nd school of Abkhazia A/R (this is a displaced school from the region of Abkhazia because of the occupation by the Russian Federation).

Within the framework of the training, presentations were made by professors of the Jean Monnet module, Ekaterine Kardava and Guranda Chelidze. On October 24, Mariam Sulashvili, head of Erasmus+ National Office, gave a welcome speech at the training. On October 31, the attending public was welcomed by the director of the 2nd school of A/R of Abkhazia, Christina Avaliani.

The manual - How to teach the European Union was distributed at the training.

The following issues were discussed at the training: why it is important to strengthen European studies in various educational programs and teachng disciplines; What should a lecturer, teacher, specialist, professional pay attention to in the framework of his/her own curriculum in order to develop comparative studies with EU law and policy; Where to look for official, objective, historical, factual and verified information, on which to base the deepening of knowledge in the direction of the European Union.

The guide is unique and innovative in many aspects, including listing all agreements signed between the EU and Georgia (the entire history) and the EU's progress reports on Georgia from 2007 to 2023 (annual).

On October 24, a total of 39 people attended the training (in two groups). On October 31, 24 persons participated.

At the training, a post-test was made, where the trainees evaluated the training, the topic and the professors of Jean Monnet.

At the training, the participants voiced recommendations and suggestions for further improvement and new approaches to the teaching of the European Union.
