The conference promoting intercultural competencies in education was organized to celebrate the second Anniversary of the Academic Impact Declaration consisting of ten principles in the field of human rights, literacy, sustainability and conflict resolution.
The conference was attended by 190 national and international representatives focusing on the engagement of higher education in global concerns. International experts, university presidents from all over the world, as well as stakeholders gathered together to discuss the means of why and how to promote intercultural competencies in diverse settings. Caucasus University was represented at the conference as co organizer took an active role in supporting the promotion of the UN agenda through its ten universal principles.
"Societies and economies grow and develop by interaction and cooperation, but societies must have the means of interacting with one another – they must have bridges."- Kakha Shengelia, the president of Caucasus University noted in his speech on the second day of the conference. - "Georgia stands across the ancient Silk Road, and, as a consequence of its geography, has many centuries of experience of building bridges to other cultures. I hope the conference will help us to learn from one another from our experiences, some of which are common, others of which are unique to our own situations".
Running over three days the conference wrapped up its work with renewed optimism for the future to be resulted in successful implementation of those ten principles of the UN Global Compact.
"Our university bridges must be attended to with regularity." – says Mr. Shengelia, the president of Caucasus University, "We must visit and learn best practices from one another and we must reinforce our relationships with actions."
