Under the leadership of Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, a meeting of the council of rectors was held at Caucasus University in Tbilisi. Rectors from various higher educational institutions authorized in Georgia participated in the meeting.
It is noteworthy that this marks the first instance in Georgia where a private higher educational institution hosted the council of rectors. Kakha Shengelia, the president of Caucasus University, inaugurated the meeting and extended a welcoming address to the attendees.
The attendees touched on the challenges within the higher education sector, explored strategies to address them, and engaged in discussions regarding future plans for the further development of university spaces.
The discussions encompassed significant topics, including advocating for Georgia's participation in international exhibitions, granting universities the authority to modify questionnaires, augmenting the quota for Armenian and Azerbaijani-speaking funding seeking students, developing three-year bachelor's programs and the activities of Horizon-Europe university grant offices. Various other issues raised by the rectors were also part of the discussion.
The meeting proceeded in discussion mode and the participants made joint decisions regarding a number of issues.
The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Alexander Tsuladze and Deputy Nodar Papukashvili.
As part of the higher education reform, through Giorgi Amilakhvari’s initiative, meetings with rectors will be held on a regular basis in all authorized public and private universities across Georgia. This approach aims to ensure the comprehensive involvement of various institutions in the reform process and facilitate timely and effective decision-making to address higher education challenges.
