Tbilisi, Georgia - June 10-14, 2024
A delegation from the University of Johannesburg, led by emeritus Professors CA Georghiou and Deon Geldenhuys (Faculty of Humanities, Department of Politics and International Relations), visited Caucasus University from June 10 to 14, 2024. This visit was a realization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concluded between the two universities and focused on exploring avenues of cooperation, including student and faculty exchanges, and research collaborations.
Visiting Delegation was received by Dr. Kakha Shengelia, President of Caucasus University together with Mrs. Irena Melua, Vice President for Internationalization; Prof. Eka Akobia, Dean, Caucasus School of Governance and Ketevn Karbaia, Director, International Relations Department. During the meeting sides exchanged information about possible future teaching and research collaborative activities.
The visiting delegation also had a productive meeting with the academic staff of the Caucasus School of Governance to share teaching and research experiences and discuss avenues of future collaboration.
The delegation also met with the Dean of Caucasus School of Humanities and Social Sciences for exploring possible avenues of cooperation between psychology educational programs of respective Universities.
At a public lecture organized for CSG students Professor Deon Geldenhuys delivered a lecture on "Comparing Georgia and South Africa: What international rankings reveal," and Emeritus Professor CA Georghiou gave a lecture on "An Assessment of Diplomatic Relations between South Africa and Russia," meeting included an interactive discussion with the audience.
The delegation also visited number of think tanks in Tbilisi working on regional and international security as well as meet with the representatives of the Department of Middle East and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
As part of the visit, the delegation visited the National Museum of Soviet Occupation.
This visit highlighted the commitment to fostering international cooperation in higher education and research, paving the way for future collaborative projects between Caucasus University and University of Johannesburg.
