Public lecture - "Localization of Several Famous Christian Monuments in the Territory of Türkiye"

6 June 2024

On June 6, Professor Teimuraz Khutsishvili from the School of Tourism delivered a public lecture on " Localization of Several Famous Christian Monuments in the Territory of Türkiye."

The lecture explored the cultural heritage of historical Samtskhe in Türkiye and its significance in tourism.

The presentation of the latest research findings will enable the development of new tourist routes that are interesting from a tourism perspective.

In the writings of Basili Zarzmeli (IX-X) and Abuseridze Tbeli (XIII), several monasteries and churches are mentioned that have not been identified with specific architectural or archaeological monuments. These include the Kveli Monastery, St. George's Church of Orgharti, as well as the Churches of John the Baptist and St. George of Shuartkali.

Since 2003, the study of this part of Samtsakhi has been carried out by the Caucasus University and the Research Center for Culture and Tourism Resources of Georgia. The works were financed to a significant extent by the Shota Rustaveli Scientific Foundation.
