The Ministry of Justice of Georgia announced qualification examinations for notaries, which is to be held in the Educational Center of the Ministry of Justice. The application submission which started on October 12 will last until November 8. The examination is to be held in two stages: November 13-14 – Examination in General Skills, November 20-21 in Professional Skills. Passing the exam is one of the requirements for being designated as a Notary. LLM students wanting to take the position of Notary are given a chance to serve their people in the regions where they need their help and assistance. In accordance with the Law on Notary prepared by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, a candidate meeting all the requirements will be designated to serve for three years as a Notary in the regions and settlements where notary service is unavailable. After the three years the candidate is allowed to pursue his/her career in the city, town or region of his her choice. During the three-year term the Georgian Notary Chamber will give the newly appointed notaries financial aid, which in accordance with the existing Tax Code is tax exempt. The financial aid includes rent for Notary office, necessary equipment and financial assistance. Thus, any newly appointed Notary will have all the possibilities of carrying out his/her task appropriately and efficiently. In addition, a successful candidate designated in a mountainous region or any other place where notary service is yet unavailable, will get the refund for the sum paid for taking the examination. Requirements for taking the examination: higher education in Law (bachelor’s degree suffices), passing the qualification examination in Notary Business and serving as an intern at Education Center at the Notary Chamber (any person having a five-year experience of working as a lawyer at a public organization is freed from the internship).
