On March 19, Doctor of Law and Professor Khatuna Burkadze delivered a public lecture at Caucasus University on the topic of "The European Future of Georgia: From Candidacy to Membership."
Khatuna Burkadze noted: "As a result of the analysis of the history of European integration, it is obvious that the idea of a united Europe implies peace, security, creation of real opportunities for development and, of course, diversity, respect and protection of the identity of European countries. The European Union, through economic and political integration, has been able to develop high European standards for the protection of human rights and freedoms. Accordingly, the goal of this system is to facilitate the implementation of legislative and institutional changes in the member states, which mean the protection of the individual's political, civil, social, economic, and cultural rights".
"Georgia becoming a member of the European Union means granting the status of European Union citizenship upon our citizens, symbolizing the complete opening of the window to European opportunities. And this is the best, democratic, protected, stable means of realizing one's goals. This entails the use of relevant opportunities across all member states of the European Union, encompassing professional development and the implementation of business plans. Simultaneously, it implies the presence of effective mechanisms to safeguard the legal interests of each individual, ensuring equal access to them under the protection of the law. It is the respect for the rule of law that is necessary for the proper realization of citizens' rights and for establishing numerous guarantees in this regard.," said Khatuna Burkadze.
