BIOGRAPHY

Tengiz Verulava is a Professor at the Caucasus University School of Medicine and Healthcare Management and Director of the Institute of Health Policy. He also holds the title of Honorary Research Fellow at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. In addition, Professor Verulava serves as Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal Health Policy, Economics and Sociology and plays an active role in organizing annual scientific conferences in this field.

 

His research interests include health policy, health economics, managed care, quality of medical services, insurance, and the sociology of health and economics. His academic bibliography comprises 20 books and more than 300 scholarly publications published in leading international peer-reviewed journals.

 

Professor Verulava has received numerous national and institutional distinctions in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements. Among them, he was awarded the Best Scientist of the Year prize by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia in 2018. In 2021, he received the award for the best scientific paper from the Association of Security Researchers. Based on the results of the 2024 and 2025 academic years, he was also named Caucasus University Best Scientist of the Year for two consecutive years.

 

As a project leader, he has 30 years of experience managing programs funded by the European Union and national scientific foundations. Under his leadership, research projects supported by the Rustaveli Foundation and other leading international organizations have been successfully implemented. He is currently leading a Young Scientists Grant funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, focusing on the assessment of preparedness for crisis and disaster management.

 

Tengiz Verulava holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Tbilisi State Medical University (2001). Over the course of his career, he has also conducted academic and research work in the United Kingdom, including at the University of York, as well as at other leading international centers. This experience has contributed to his extensive expertise in the transformation and modernization of healthcare systems.
