On October 18 at 15:00, Professor Peter Schmelz from Johns Hopkins University will deliver a public lecture at Caucasus University. The event is organized by the International Research Center for the Study of Georgia at the Caucasus School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Peter J. Schmeltz is a professor in the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature at Johns Hopkins University. He is one of the most famous contemporary researchers of Soviet music and art.
His notable contributions have earned him prestigious awards such as the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award and the Otto Kinkeldey Award; He has received research fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Academy in Berlin, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and the Fulbright Program.
Currently, with the support of the Fulbright program, he is conducting research at Tbilisi State Conservatory, focusing on unofficial Soviet music in Georgia.
The public lecture will be held in the library of Caucasus University.
