On December 14, in the framework of the Erasmus + Institutional Development Project “Establishment of Psychological Counselling Centers at Georgian HEIs for Students (E-PSY)” conducted study results were presented to the Governing Council of Caucasus University.
The study result were presented to the Governing Board by Davit Natroshvili, dean of the Caucasus School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The study aimed to examine students' expectations and attitudes about the need for psychological counseling centers and qualified psychological services in the university space.
Quantitative research was conducted across the country in which 6374 students participated. Research has revealed that most students with psychological problems prefer to refer to a friend or self-help. At the same time, the study showed that 83% of the surveyed students (if needed) are ready to use a psychological counseling center if such a center is located at university.
The results of the presented study once again confirmed the need to open a student psychological counseling center in the university space.
The main aim of the given project is the establishment of psychological counselling centres at higher education institutions (HEIs) of Georgia and development of official/legal documentation for policy makers (representatives of Georgian government, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia (MESCS)) in order to raise metal health awareness and point out the importance of provision of psychological counselling to students at Georgian HEIs.
