Public Lecture - The Dreyfus Case Betrayal or Loyalty

7 December 2021

On December 18, at 12:00 a public lecture will be held for the entrants on the topic - "The Dreyfus Affair" Betrayal or Loyalty " at the CU campus,

At the end of the 19th century, a lawsuit was filed against Alfred Dreyfus, a French army officer of Jewish descent. The reason for the accusation was the disappearance of a secret document from the French General Staff. There was no direct evidence of Dreyfus's connection to the loss of this document, but the prosecution submitted a forged Dreyfus letter confirming its connection to German intelligence. The court found this evidence sufficient. Dreyfus was arrested and tried on charges of treason. He was exiled to a French colony in Guyana

In the lecture we will discuss such historical documents of the XIX century French Republic as:

"I blame" Emile Zola's letter to the President of France

Emile Zola's letter to France

Dreyfus and Zola court records

The word of the prosecutor

Lawyer's word

Roman Polanski's film "The Officer and the Spy" will also be discussed during the lecture.

The aim of the lecture is to answer a topical question in the history of France: who was Alfred Dreyfus, a traitor or a loyalist of the country?

The lecture will be delivered by:

Lawyer Luka Bibineishvili, Founding Partner of Protego Maxima Legal

Mariam Khantadze, a 3rd year student at Caucasus School of Law, Assistant Lawyer at Protego Maxima Legal
