Public Lecture on Whether Georgia Should Introduce a Tourism Tax

On June 19, Caucasus University hosted a public lecture titled “Should Georgia Introduce a Tourism Tax? Assessing International Practice and Economic Implications.”

 

The lecture was delivered by Giorgi Bregadze, Affiliated Professor at Caucasus University School of Tourism.

 

During the meeting, the speaker discussed the nature and purpose of tourism taxes, international practices in their application, the experiences of different countries, and the outcomes achieved. The lecture also examined the potential economic effects of introducing a tourism tax, including its impact on tourism demand, the competitiveness of the tourism sector, state and local budget revenues, and the financing of tourism infrastructure and destination development.

 

Particular attention was given to the Georgian context, as well as to the opportunities and challenges that may be associated with the possible introduction of a tourism tax in the country.

 

The lecture was attended by students, academic staff, public-sector representatives, and other participants interested in the topic. The meeting continued in a discussion format, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and share their views.
