On September 28, 2010, the Central Election Commission of Georgia and eight higher education institutions of Georgia signed a Memorandum of Understanding "On the Implementation of the Curriculum in the Field of Electoral Law in Georgian Higher Education Institutions."
The memorandum was signed by Caucasus University, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgian Technical University, Sokhumi State University, Grigol Robakidze University, Tbilisi State University of Economic Relations, Guram Tavartkiladze Teaching University, Davit Agmashenebeli University of Georgia.
According to the memorandum, a lecture course on electoral law will be introduced for law school students in the above-mentioned higher education institutions, after the successful completion of which law school graduates will also undergo an internship in the Tbilisi constituencies.
It is planned to establish a legal clinic on the basis of Caucasus University, within the framework of which students' knowledge on electoral law issues will be enhanced. This goal will be implemented together with theoretical knowledge on the basis of case studies and practical exercises, which will be prepared as a result of a joint program of the Caucasus School of Law and the Central Election Commission of Georgia.
The idea of this kind of cooperation belongs to the LEPL Center for Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training.
The memorandum was signed by Caucasus University President Kakha Shengelia, rectors of various higher education institutions, Zurab Kharatishvili, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Georgia, and Natia Zaalishvili, Head of the LEPL Center for Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education of Georgia, international and local non-governmental organizations.
