From June 30 to July 4, Caucasus University Professor Levan Darbaidze and expert judge Eka Areshidze visited Switzerland as part of their project "Commentary on the Juvenile Justice Code," which won the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation's 2023 Fundamental Research Competition.
The evaluation was conducted by the European Science Foundation (European Science Foundation – Science Connect, ESF-SC).
The Caucasus University project was selected as one of the winning proposals among approximately 500 applications. The project involves local and international experts in creating the first comprehensive commentary on Georgia's Juvenile Justice Code, providing valuable educational and practical resources for students, practicing lawyers, and anyone interested in children's rights.
During their visit, the team held meetings at Basel's Specialized Juvenile Prosecutor's Office with Chief Juvenile Prosecutor Sarah-Jo Rae and in Fribourg with Chief Mediator Gerard Demier. Swiss prosecutors, mediators, social workers, and other specialists in the field also participated in these sessions.
During the discussion, the participants provided the project implementers with recommendations regarding the commentary on the Juvenile Justice Code.
